Physiological Signs:
- Increased size and weight
- Enlarged abdomen
- Reddened or swollen genital area
- Increased appetite
- Behavioral changes such as restlessness or hiding
- Reduced activity
- Hormonal changes indicated by increased production of gonadotropins
- Reduced growth rate in some species
- Appearance of a brood patch or belly region where the eggs will be carried
